Tesoro Metal Detector Review
Published by Larry on Tagged Detector Review
You do not have to spend $1000.00 to compete for finding the rare or ancient coins that have been lost. Tesoro Metal Detectors offers the Silver Sabre uMax that retails for $299.99 and compete’s with many of the big boys that cost hundreds more. I owned an original Silver Sabre back in the late 1980′s that paid for itself close to ten times as I found over 1000 silver dimes with it ranging from 1853 to 1964 in age and over 10,000 total coins. Silver Max is a good name as its sensitivity to small silver coins is excellent. The new version uMax has the same great features of silent search in both all metal and discriminate modes. It can be differentiated from the original by its very small housing, the Max Boost technology that provides increased sensitivity and depth in lightly mineralized soil, and a microprocessor. Having an operation frequency of 10kHz, it is also sensitive to gold and low conductive coin metals like brass. This great no bells and whistles metal detector is presently on sell for less than $240.00 with free shipping. Get yours now! It makes a great Christmas gift for all ages as it is fully adjustable, weighs only 2.2 pounds and requires only one 9 volt battery. All Tesoro metal detectors come with a lifetime warranty covering workmanship and material quality. Take a look at the great site below and get your metal detector that will help you build fabulous coin collections. Here’s to “diggin” it! Larry Smith

Larry,
Many people do not have $1000 to spend especially if they are starting out and want to test the waters so to speak. I can relate to that because the same is true for golf equipment. But $300 for the Sabre uMax seems more like the ticket especilally when endorsed by a professional such as yourself. Where can you purchase this model ? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Larry, I have a White MXT 300. Just 2 weeks old. Been to the beach but not much more than a couple of dollars worth of new coins so far. Tried my yard in Jacksonville but way too much trash to be productive. I’m still figuring out the control settings for sensitivity, gain, ect. I talked to someone fishing on the beach yesterday and they said a couple of guys sat were detecting with this big rectangular detector in the area I had just searched. I think I need to find some less accessable beach areas that haven’t been worked so hard if I want to find more than a bucks change. Joe

A friend of mine went to the White’s factory and complained about the MXT 300 and received this message from the factory, “When near RF and/or 60 cycles or high-voltage transmitters, you can EXPECT to hear a lot of audio disturbances with the MXT. It is because it was originally designed as a Gold nugget machine, a machine specifically designed for a lot of sensitivity, and not a coin-hunter. Therefore, it is a bit too sensitive both to radio and electrical interference, AND hot rocks. If someone’s MXT is (not) sensitive to these situations, then there is something really wrong with it, so send it back to the factory to be repaired.” ANY gold nugget detector should be very sensitive to just about anything, because the extra sensitivity is absolutely necessary, to be able to find those tiny nuggets. The Fisher Gold Bug and Gold Bug 2 are equally as sensitive in these situations, as is the Compass Goldscanner, and the various gold-hunting Minelabs. The machines are working very well being noisy and finding so many hot rocks, but if you want to coin hunt, you need to buy a coin hunter, not a converted gold nugget hunter, which the MXT is.
This is not to say that you cannot find coins but it does have a major drawback as a coin hunter. I personally do not recommend it for beach hunting. I used to hunt the beaches in Jacksonville and met with success during Spring Break in particular. The North Beach I named Coin Beach and the South Beach I called Ring Beach. Found lots of coins (all newer) in North and several nice gold rings and much sterling jewelry on South Beach. That was mid to late 80′s and I am not sure that those conditions would hold true today. The only time I find old coins on Florida beaches today is after a major storm. My favorite machine for Jacksonville Beach area coin shooting was a Fisher 1260 on land and a 1280 in the water. Today, I would probably use a White’s Prism IV, A Tesoro Silver Sabre U Max, Garrett 250, Fisher 1212X, Fisher F-2 or 4 or one of several new Minelab units on land and a Fisher cz20, or Minelab Excaliber in the water. The only rectangular detector heads I know much about are the Big Foot units that are about 4 by 18 inches made for White’s unit and designed by Jimmie Sierra. Great detecting coils.

I have to say I have been very happy with my Tesoro Cibola. I bought it as my first machine and it has paid off greatly. AFter a couple of years I realized the value of being able to ground balance. I then had my Cibola modded where I can ground balance it. This thing really works perfect now.
