Mother’s Day Gift

Today the 11th of May, 2008 is the 100th year of the celebration of Mother’s Day since its beginning in Grafton, West Virginia. It was a great day for metal detecting in Holiday, FL. Gina Hopkins and Mark Morel will not forget this Mother’s Day. Last week Mark gave Gina a beautiful 3/4 carat engagement ring and she lost it within 24 hours. Gina had called me about tying the knot for them later this summer and asked if I still had a metal detector. I agreed to meet them and said I would bring a metal detector or two.
At 4:15 p.m. today I arrived at Mark’s lovely home in Holiday and immediately put together a Tesoro Conquistador u max with a Clean Sweep (Big Foot) coil. Neither of them had ever used a metal detector and I wanted to introduce them to the hobby. I put the unit in Mark’s hands after setting the discrimination at foil and sensitivity at about 8. Mark needed very little instruction and started nice even, slow sweeps keeping the big foot 18 inch coil flat to the ground. Gina was not sure where she lost the ring. It could be inside or outside the house or in the front yard or the side yard. Mark got three promising signals within a few minutes and at about 10 minutes into the search he got a solid signal that a sweep through the grass with his hand turned up a beautiful gold band. Gina grabbed Mark and hugged him big time and then both of them grabbed and hugged me. What a great Mother’s Day find and a rich reward for me. I believe, with all my heart, that if you do enough to help other people get (or find) what they need, you will receive what you need. Happy Mom’s day to all mothers and I hope it is a great day for you.
My only regret in this experience is that I didn’t take a camera and get pictures of this beautiful couple and their Mother’s Day find. Here’s to “diggin it”! Larry
