Hi Larry!
Great site and valuable information! Thank you for letting me join it! I’d like to learn more about researching sites, getting permission, and what you think about the newer and more expensive detectors that cost say from $700. and up. Are they really worth the higher prices?? Keep up the great work! I learned a lot already by reading your archives!
Regards,
David

David,
Welcome and thanks! I do have a good post on getting permission and you can copy my permission form too. The newer detectors are great and can tell you a lot of information like probable target, how deep, metal type and even imaging details just to name a few things for which they are popular. I do not see a great difference in depth performance, particularily in lightly mineralized ground. Read the post on the Garrett 1350 as an example of new technology in that price range. There are really some nice high technology lower price machines that I could do as well with as the higher priced machines. Underwater and placer gold hunting equipment is where I would reccommending spending the bigger bucks. For underwater equipment I recommend Fisher and Minelab and for gold hunting Minelab is tops. A Fisher F2 or Garrett Ace 250 in the $200.00 range are great newer start-up machines for coin and general relic hunting.

Did you get my email message? I hasd to delay it as all my files and the drawing process are on my crashed computer at home. I have a tech fixing the brain and will restore files that I use and then we will draw and ship the Ace 150.

I am looking for some metal detecting buddies in Italy…Anybody planning to be in Italy or live there who metal detects in central Italy? Also, I have a question about what would be the best metal detector today for hunting in high mineralized soils like one finds in Italy? Have a great day!

Kevin,
you might want to go a few metal detector forums to find Italian hobbyists to respond and find out what they would recommend. The Friend’s forum is good with a lot of outside of US responders but do a Google search for MD forums and join a few so you can put a thread in about Italy. All the major makers of detectors make units that have ground adjustment controls. I would not use any instrument with just the auto ground system in rough ground like central Italy. Top of the line Garrett and White’s units do well in this type of soil. Hope you have a great Italian venture.
