Plantation Report 2

Rebecca, one of the five members of the USF grad school archeology program, emailed me again about their follow-up trip to the plantation area of Daytona that burned in mid 1830′s. I want to share her report with just minor editing. I am very excited and have offered more detectors for another trip to this site. Here it is:

Hi Larry,

Hope that you had a nice Thanksgiving. It went really well, the park ranger had recently found some new buildings/ruins in one area of the park so he wanted us to come take a look at them. Using the metal detectors we were able to figure out the extent of some of the buildings. We also found part of an old iron water hand pump. They worked really well, the ranger was really impressed!

We are hoping to go out there again to do some more surveying, but it probably won’t be for a few weeks. I feel bad having your detectors for so long already. I’d be happy to bring them back to you whenever is most convenient. Would it then be possible for me to borrow them again at a later date?

Again, I just want to thank you so much for all your help. The metal detectors have really worked out better than we ever could have imagined! Also, now that my classes are over for the semester I’ll make sure to post what we have found so far on your blog.

Thanks again,

Becky
